About Us

The Education Team includes staff specialists such as literacy and numeracy catalysts, Cree
language and culture program coordinators, knowledge keepers, elder’s helpers called “oskapasak,” and
the Elders. Both schools have resident Elders who support learners with guidance, language learning,
historical relevance and teaching cultural lifeways and practices of the Red Earth Cree. We apply
Mihkhoskiwakak Nehiyaw Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing to cultural and linguistic
curriculum connections to enhance oracy and fluency in the Cree language. This is extremely important
to the Red Earth Cree people, Mihkhoskiwakak Nehiyawak. The Red Earth Education Authority is very
fortunate to able to collect the RECN Elder stories. The Mihkhoskiwakak Nehiyawak say, the language
becomes like food-a necessary survival.

While this, “About Us” page has focused on language and culture development and
implementation, the school programs follow the Saskatchewan Ministry of learning Curriculum. As you
browse the website, we will be changing photos, and updating message boards to ensure we are providing you with current events that reflect who we are as the Mihkoskowakak Nehiywak. In the meantime, we welcome you and say “tawow” which means, “there is room” for you.
