Reporting to the principal the teacher will be responsible for instructing students by
creating Unit plan, lesson plans, administering praise and constructive criticism,
instructing students on Core subject areas to create a well-rounded, comprehensive
instructional program. The teacher will also be expected to work collaboratively with
Literacy, Numeracy Catalysts, Cree Immersion, Land-based Culture Program and the
Special Education Teacher to support student learning.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish classroom management plans, observe and evaluate students’
performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. - Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying
needs and interests. - Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such
as cooperative learning, discussions, demonstrations, etc. - Establish clear outcomes for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate
those outcomes to students. - Be knowledgeable about administration policies and rules governing students
(student/school safety handbooks).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Candidates should be passionate about teaching and have a love for the students. - Bachelor’s degree in education
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate
effectively and respectfully with staff and students and service providers. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Collaborates well with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical
approaches, curricular alignment and instructional strategies. - Promotes the use of multiple methods in solving problems, identifying more
efficient strategies and generalizing principles to a broad variety of applications. - Encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to
communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning and to considers
multiple perspectives when solving problems. - Invests in the life of the school by participating in the Land-based and culture
program, be cognizant of the Mihkoskiwakak Nehiyawak Culture and participate in
cultural activities in the community. - Demonstrated professional behavior, including discretion, judgment and integrity.
